OMYA in VERMONT Omya is a mineral processing company whose North American operations are headquartered in Proctor, Vermont. Omya is one of the largest employers in Vermont and is an important economic engine for the state. In 2004, the company employed over 300 Vermont residents and paid approximately $2.2 million in property taxes to 25 Vermont towns. Omya quarries Vermont marble, which then is ground and milled to produce a fine ground calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is used in an array of products including food and pharmaceuticals like cereal and antacid tablets, and industrial applications like paper, paint, and plastics. Omya is one of the largest producers of ground calcium carbonate (GCC) in the world. Click here to view a site map. As one of the region’s largest employers, Omya takes seriously its regulatory, environmental, and community obligations. The Project Library provides information about the regulatory processes currently underway at Omya. The Environmental Management section offers a more detailed description of the efforts that Omya is taking on these fronts.
